Petrol in Delhi would have cost around ₹125 per litre when global crude prices hit $135 a barrel, had ethanol not been blended into fuel, the Centre said. Defending the E20 programme, it said consumers instead paid ₹94.77 per litre, calling ethanol India's energy insurance against oil shocks.
