Divorce is illegal in these two countries; what happens when marriages end
The Philippines and Vatican City are often described as countries where divorce is illegal, but the legal reality is more nuanced. The Philippines has no general divorce law for most marriages, while Muslim Filipinos have specific divorce provisions. In Vatican City, Catholic canon law does not allow divorce for valid, consummated sacramental marriages, but provides for separation, annulment and limited forms of dissolution.
