'We are doing what the government won't': Greenpeace dumps nine giant boulders into the North Sea to create a 45-square-mile underwater 'rock barrier' against industrial fishing
Environmental activists from Greenpeace have deployed nine limestone boulders in the Southern North Sea to prevent bottom trawling. This underwater barrier aims to protect marine biodiversity, particularly harbour porpoises affected by industrial fishing. Greenpeace argues that government protections have been insufficient to shield marine habitats from destructive fishing methods. The deployment of boulders took place without a marine licence, raising regulatory concerns.
