Legendary singer S Janaki, called Nightingale of South India passes away at 88
Veteran playback singer S Janaki, known as Nightingale of South India, passed away at 88. She died at Apollo Hospital in Mysuru after battling age-related health issues. Janaki Amma had declined the Padma Bhushan award in 2013, feeling it came too late. She received four National Film Awards and thirty-three State Film Awards during her career. The legendary singer had lent her voice to over twenty Indian languages.
