Ground zero of Assam’s flood fury: Village vanishes in an hour; toll rises to 78
Hiloni Nepali Khuti village in Sivasagar district was destroyed by floods. Torrential rain in Nagaland caused the Dikhow river to overflow its banks. The devastating floodwaters swept away homes and nearly four thousand cattle. Residents are now trying to rebuild their lives with little hope remaining. Many families lost their dairy farming livelihoods to the raging waters.
