Number of space startups rose from one in 2014 to over 400 in 2026: Government to Rajya Sabha
India's space sector has seen significant growth since private players entered in 2020. Over 400 space start-ups now exist, attracting more than $600 million in investment. Private investment reached $187 million in 2026, with 105 authorisations issued. Companies have demonstrated launch capabilities and placed many satellites and payloads into orbit. Major investors and global tech giants are now backing Indian space ventures.
