Microsoft co-founder gave $100M to brain research; his institute mapped 21,000 genes
Paul G. Allen invested $100 million in 2003 to establish the Allen Institute for Brain Science in Seattle. This institute focused on creating the Allen Brain Atlas, which mapped gene activity in the mouse brain. The Atlas revealed that approximately 80% of genes are active in the brain, surpassing previous estimates. The data from the project was made publicly available at no cost to researchers globally.
