A fossil called Lizzie was thought to be an early reptile
A Scottish fossil known as Lizzie was previously considered one of the earliest reptiles. Recent X-ray scans revealed features suggesting it was more fish-like than reptilian. These findings indicate that traits associated with land adaptation developed gradually in tetrapods. Researchers now propose that clawed footprints may have belonged to amphibious relatives instead of early amniotes. This evolution redefines our understanding of early life forms transitioning from water to land.
