Google just moved 90 people out of DeepMind, and staff are asking why
Google is moving its roughly 90-person AI responsibility team out of Google DeepMind and into its global affairs organisation, the division that handles policy and lobbying. The shift, starting in September, is part of a wider reorganisation that folds DeepMind closer into central Google. Some employees worry the team will lose access to Gemini researchers, weakening AI safety work. Team lead Helen King says access and resources stay intact.
